Fantasy Map: Victoria Integrated Transit Authority

Update: now with more routes in Fairfield!

Introduction: This is a fantasy/proposed transit network for Victoria, BC, Canada. I’ve been working on this off-and-on since the summer of 2011. It’s been a long process because I’ve tried to make this work not only as a nice looking graphic, but also as a maybe, somewhat, kinda plausible and functioning transit network. No destroying entire neighbourhoods and no monorails. However, with that in mind, I should mention I have absolutely no background in urban or transit planning. I have a few transit books and I follow @humantransit. So if you do this for a living and I’ve just made your head hurt, sorry.

Ridiculous Fishing

The new iOS gaming hotness is Ridiculous Fishing. In it, you try to get your hook as deep as you can, then catch as many fish as you can on the way up, and finally shoot as many of the fish as you can with a gun. There are also chainsaws and an in-game Twitter clone called Byrdr. This game is ten times more charming than that Arnold on Green Acres and fun as hell. Highly recommended.

Really want to try this with @dearpip as I’m pretty sure she’s still a Star Wars virgin (at least in the sense of seeing all movies start to finish, I’m sure she’s caught some clips on TV).

Playing the movies slightly out of order (IV, V, II, III, VI) and removing Episode I sounds like a fantastic way to watch the series.

Why I Instantly Hate Everyone

I’m just one of those people that likes to get their hate on. While for the most part it’s not a purebred hatred (though pig parkers are definitely close), there is something about our species that makes it really easy to rub each other the wrong way.

Unfortunately, this is exascerbated by the fact that there are some fucking idiots walking the planet. We’re not really talking about people that are stupid, per se, we’re talking about people that go out of their way to do stupid things - the difference is important.

The Case of the Toilet

I live in a relatively nice neighbourhood. People walk their dogs, we’re close to a beautiful park, traffic down our streets is slow - it’s just nice. But nice places get ruined by assholes.

One of the houses in the neighbourhood was going through a renovation. On completion they ended up with a spare toilet and thought, “You know what? Somebody might need this.” So they did what we all do: put it outside of their house and popped a little ‘free’ sign on it.

Now, granted, the odds of somebody passing by and going, “Oh, shit, I’m in dire need of a used toilet from the 70’s - PERFECT” is pretty slim, the option is available. That is, of course, until our asshole comes into play.

At some point during the night some fucking douchebag thought it would be a good idea to kick the toilet over thus smashing the top of it off. Instead of having a free toilet on the side of the road we have garbage. What has to go through your idiotic brain to do something like that? Hate.

The Case of the Email

A friend of mine told me this quick little story about how his mum had sent a friend of hers a long email with life updates and how-are-you’s. A week went by with no reply until an interesting email popped up in her inbox.

It wasn’t a reply from her friend, no, it was a reply from a stranger. Oops - she had got her friend’s email address wrong. But this was no ordinary “wrong email” replies. The email, I’m afraid, read something like this:

wrong email you fucking cunt

Now, I’m all for profanity; I think it’s great. But there are lines in life and this clearly crossed it. All this email accomplished was making a woman scared of the internet (as she probably should be, now that I think of it - it’s a scary place).

So, the next time you think your friend is being a little too cynical on the world, just remember all of the assholes that populate it.
